Cant turn on automatic updates xp

I recommend you try Method 1 first and see if that corrects the problem. If not, come back and we'll see if we can help further. If your problem is solved, here's how to say thanks! RE Hi Again, Thanks for your reply. I ran the Codeplex AU Check and it downloaded some things and it finished and I tried to enable Automatic Updates again and now I get this error message whenever I try to open anything in the Control panel, And even when I try to view My Computer Properties - "The application failed to initialize properly 0xc Click on OK to terminate application.

Also while running the AU Check software I was getting similiar error messages but with the title cscript or something. Its not really urgent but I would like it fixed as soon as possible. Guys I appreciate all your help greatly - Thanks a lot Edit: I just realized when I put my USB in it wont read it or it wont install the software to run it and when I tried installing a joystick that wouldn't work either I have no idea what the problem is If it was CCleaner that played around with the registry and maybe deleted a file that was needed it should have been fixed when I reformatted my PC with the Acer factory default settings, Why is this still a problem even when I reformat???

Thanks Another Edit: Ok I figured out how to manually install the Joystick so that the driver on the disk works Still have the other problems with the updates and not being able to access anything in Control panel, Thanks guys One more edit lol: I forgot to mention whenever I open things in control panel it comes up with a "Rundll32 application error" and then that code I mentioned above "The application failed to initialize properly 0xc Anyhow, when I try to turn on my computer it loads properly and comes to a certain point when its loading the user settings it gives an error..

This error is a userinit. If it was CCleaner that deleted a file in the registry that I needed then a reformat should have fixed that correct????

Well you will need to do it the harder way and as a registry edit will be required it is essential that you back up your registry before you do anything else.

Then in the event of trouble it will be easier to repair your registry. Download ERUNT from here: ERUNT download and review - registry backup tool from SnapFiles and take a moment to familiarise yourself with the programme and how to repair your registry with it if it should become necessary.

At the same time it would be wise to create a System Restore point, post back here if you need instructions on how to do this. EXE system file checker in this article! When you have followed all the instructions, reboot you machine and try to run SFC again, and please let us know how you go.

Reboot and try Windows Updates again. Please post back with your results. Thanks for your feedback. In the task bar notification area in the lower right hand corner of the screen the icon says automatic updates are turned off. Can't turn them on by clicking on the icon.

Updates are obviously off because the computer never updates. How to turn them back on when the Security Center says they're already on but the status icon says they're off and can't be turned on?
