The surface of the world is represented using satellite imagery from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Centre enhanced with 3D terrain data to give a colourful portrayal of the physical geography of the planet. The image has been enhanced to change subtly throughout the year reflecting the seasonal advance and retreat of ice caps, snow cover.

The moving shadow covers the area on the globe where the sun is below the horizon. Where neither the sun nor the moon can be seen, the shadow is darker still. As an area becomes covered by the night-time shadow, town and city lights are turned on. Their brightness is in proportion to the population size. You can overlay the maps with an image of global cloud cover. The clouds layer makes use of public domain satellite photographs. The images are updated approximately every three hours.

Report Software. Sun Clock is a program for Windows to show the local time around the world and the areas of the globe which are in night or day. In addition it shows the night sky and can be used to predict shadows at any location and any time of year. City lights are visible at night time.

During the year the extent of the polar ice caps and the nature of the vegetation changes to reflect the seasons. Sun Clock 8 can be used as a standalone program, or the world map can be used as a full-screen wall display, or as a screen saver without password.

Sun Clock is designed for Microsoft Windows bit and bit 7 and above - Windows 10 is recommended. Sun Clock has been designed either for ultra high definition screens x pixels or for "Full HD" screens x pixels though it will also run on lower definition displays.

Each displayed location has a label "flag" showing its name and the local time and date. The position of the flag relative to the location e. As you move the cursor over the map, the time and date in the time zone under the cursor is displayed. If you click, or tap, on a displayed location, the time and date settings for that location are displayed.

Touch gestures will drag the map from side to side, while pinching and stretching will zoom in and out on the map. You can prevent the view of your world map from becoming congested by choosing some locations to be visible only when you have zoomed in on a particular region.
